Q80031805 - Does Areca ARC-8050T3-12 work on Linux?

$

The user-space components operate in coordination with the upstream Thunderbolt kernel driver (found in v4.13) to provide the Thunderbolt functionalities. These components are NOT compatible with the old out-of-tree Thunderbolt kernel module. Users need to add the Thunderbolt(TM) user-space components on the linux environments which are similar as Windows for thunderbolt M/B to enable the thunderbolt functionalities.

https://github.com/intel/thunderbolt-software-user-space

You need to upgrade your kernel to version v4.13.13 or higher for the daemon user-space components. Our linux driver in the kernel does not work with ARC-8050T3 hotplug. From Linux Raid driver source v1.40.00.05, it can support thunderbolt cable hotplug. You cannot make your old Linux kernel version PC to recognize ARC-8050T2 even if you install every driver (using driver source v1.40.00.05) that is uploaded on our website.

Q80041805 - Does ARC-8050T3-6M support fail-over on both AC_IN and DC_In (XLR) power source?

The current design does not support power fail-over but we can support via hardware modification. Device will not get damaged when both power sources connected and will use AC power by default. From new version EPLD, ARC-8050T3-6M supports power failover on both AC_IN and DC_In (XLR) power source.

Q60021807 - 4U60G2 through ARC-9200, Single controller becomes disabled when it loses connection to JBOD. How can we reactivate it?

This is a normal function of the Areca controller when the connection is broken. The solution is to re-seat the controller once to make enable the controller again or manually enable (activate) the controller on the GUI as below instead without physically re-seating the controller.

Q80011807 - Is there any compatible issue with Toshiba 14TB disk drives (MG07ACA14TE)?

$

The only issue appears to be an Initialization Mode such as Foreground Initialization. While the initialization starts OK it fails after less than 2-3 minutes. Setting the “Write Same for Initialization” to disabled rather than the default of SAS/SATA Write Same has resolved the initialization issue.

Q80021807 - With OS X 10.13.5, I am getting “MRAID” is not optimized for your Mac. This app needs to be updated by its developer to improve compatibility.

The message is normal since installer support both 32bit and 64bit OSes, and Optimized for your Mac means remove the 32bit support.

For first time ESXi system installation, we encourage installation from VMware-xxx-RollupISO.iso other than from VMware-VMvisor-installer-xxx.iso.

For example, ESXi driver rollup iso VMware-ESXi-5.5U2-RollupISO2.iso, VMware-ESXi-5.5U3-RollupISO1, VMware-ESXi-6.0U2-3620759-RollupISO1.iso, VMware-ESXi-6.0U3-RollupISO.iso,VMware-ESXi-6.5U1-RollupISO.iso, VMware-ESXi-6.5U2-RollupISO.iso, and VMware-ESXi-6.7-RollupISO.iso have included areca Raid adapter driver in iso file.

Our VMware certified driver can support secure boot from the following installation.

(1). Update the ARC-1883I BIOS code to the newest BIOS using Microsoft signed UEFI driver.

(2). Install VMware-ESXi 6.5 with VMware-ESXi-6.5U1-RollupISO.iso or VMware-ESXi-6.5U2-RollupISO.iso by disable secure boot. After installation completed then reboot.

(3). Checking secure boot success or not by:

/usr/lib/vmware/secureboot/bin/secureBoot.py –c

It displays: Secure boot can be enable.

(4). Reboot system and Enable secure boot in system BIOS. Booting works with secure.

Q10051811 - I have 8 in a server that I am building, and the drives are. ST6000nm0285 drives are not detected by the ARC-1883i. Other SATA drives work in the enclosure with the card, how to do to make them visible?

SAS 12Gb drives with SAS 3.0 standard and SATA 6Gb drives with SATA 3.3 standard define power connector pin3 as Power Disable pin, but pin1-3 was defined for 3.3V input in older standards. If the backplane power connector provides 3.3V to pin3, it will disable the power of the hard drive and result drive does not spin up.

Two possible solutions for this case:
1. Paste a tape on the hard drive SAS connector (P1~P3) to block power down control feature, because we do not use this feature.
2. Modify the backplane to remove 3.3V power feature. You can contact with your original supplier for backplane rework assist.

Q40011811 - ATTO Expresssas H1280 can not work with ARC-8380 SAS RAID subsystem. When we try to write information to the drive it becomes unresponsive. We can web browser ok with no errors and have tried both SAS ports on the SAS card and the Raid unit.

Q80011811 - I have a Mac Pro 2013 8-core 3 GHz dual D700 GPU computer with TB2 ports. I have the new Areca 8050T3 6-drive RAID attached. When the computer is put into sleep mode, the Areca RAID keeps turning on.

Storage could be woke up by background services even when the mac under sleep mode. Your system may have storage monitoring tool or synchronize tool which will wake up the array repeatedly. There had iStat Menus running. Customer has turned it off and so far it doesn’t seem to be waking up the RAID.

Q80021811 - iMac Pro can't detect RAID drive as bootable device.

Please choose the right OS settings for booting from external device.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208198

Use Startup Security Utility to make sure that your iMac Pro always starts up from your designated startup disk, and always from a legitimate, trusted operating system.

Available only on iMac Pro, Startup Security Utility offers three features to help secure your Mac against unauthorized access: Firmware password protection, Secure Boot, and External Boot.

To allow your iMac Pro to use an external startup disk:

  1. Update OS to macOS 10.14 Mojave
  2. Open Startup Security Utility.
  3. Select ”Allow booting from external media.”
  4. If you want to select an external startup disk before restarting your Mac, quit Startup Security Utility, then choose Apple () menu > Startup Disk.
